Tournament!

The first soccer tournament of the season is done! They played 4 games and even though they started out with a loss, I'd say the tournament was a success. They won the three remaining games and got second place! Owen scored a total of 9 goals (a hat trick in each of the three remaining games) and his coach named him MVP and gave him the team trophy! It was great to see them come together and work so well as a team after all the hard work they put in training over the summer.
First game!

The kids decided to see how long of a line they could build with these magnetic sticks in between games:)

End of game 2!

Happy kids!

We got some dippin dots!

Trophies and medals!

A friend took this and then following picture

So much happening here, I love this picture!

Lasik Day!

Pat had Lasik surgery to correct his vision last week! The whole process sounded pretty intense but he seemed so sure and relaxed about it that I felt pretty calm about it too. It wasn't until about 5 minutes before the procedure that I thought he seemed a little nervous...too late by then! He was whisked off into a glass-walled room and they began! They make the whole process very showy by putting the patient behind a glass-wall so spectators can observe everything. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes though so even though I watched them peel back a layer of his eyeball and then laser it, it didn't seem all that bad. For me. While I was sitting in a comfortable chair not being lasered. Pat said it was pretty uncomfortable though and then we picked up some Jimmy John's for him and he had a period of maybe 20 minutes where he felt good and then he felt awful again and went to sleep. He now has 20/20 vision though so I'm positive that he's happy he did it!
Last time with glasses!!

That's Pat with the stylish blue cap

Time to peel back an eye layer!

Still amuses me that they had this photo backdrop up and ready to go for the patients to pose with the doctor!

Back to School Feast!

Time for our back to school feast! I just checked last year's blog post and apparently I said I would make something different for our meal but I didn't. Toasted ravioli was still a big hit! We had salads and slow cooker lava cake too (not a big hit with the kids, surprisingly!). I made them cards and told them we were so excited for their year to start and that we're so proud of them (all true!). We also gifted them some Brainquest cards and busted them out after dinner.
The setup

I remember when we had to read Paige's card to her a couple years ago!

First Day of School!

Sigh. First day already??
This is Owen's first year in middle school and his first year riding a bus so he had to get up extra early to get ready and give me enough time to take pictures! It seems like there's so much more to remember this year ! Locker combinations, instruments, multiple classes to get to...hopefully he'll have it all down after the first week. When Owen got home he told us that he had a great first day and wasn't late and didn't get lost to any of his classes. Hooray! The second day was a different story:) He couldn't get his locker open and he was late to two classes because of it! He was in good spirits though so I think he'll be just fine!
Paige's situation is a little more comfortable because she's going back to the same school, still walking there and back and knows a bunch of kids (her best friend is in her class again! Yay!) but she was still a little worried about finding her room. She ended up having no problem and had a great day too! She loves her teacher and thinks the person sitting next to her is nice.

Eclipse!

There was an eclipse!! Everyone was excited!! Everyone was going crazy trying to find glasses for it!! Then it happened and we all realized it was a little lame. We didn't actually procure any glasses so maybe it could have been a better experience...but still. We were expecting it to get pretty dark but not enough of the sun was obscured. Pat took the day off so our gameplan was to make some pinhole projectors and go to an open field to view it. The projectors did work but it wasn't very exciting to watch. The best part of it for me was the fact that we just blocked out a few hours to do nothing outside together! This was the day before school started and we had such a crazy busy summer that it was so nice to relax together!
Paige's baby came too

Some frisbee throwing

Checking on the eclipse

There it is! Sort of.

Ha ha!

Soccer

Soccer season has begun!! Owen had to miss his first CFC game on my birthday because of the funeral but he made up for it with two games the next day! His team won the first game 7-0 (Owen scored 2 or 3) and then a couple of kids from his team helped out the other tri-city team in his age bracket for the second game but they lost 6-1 (goal by Owen!). So excited to be watching games again!

Birthday

What a weird birthday! My day started out with a funeral and we didn't get back until around 5pm. The kids gave me the awesome cards they made and Pat gave me some awesome gifts. He had picked out a chair hammock (is that the right name for it?) and new earbuds. The hammock is so relaxing, I love it! The kids love it too! I've caught them both using it the last couple of days and I'm happy to share:) Then we went for a walk and Paige got a little injured playing on the rocks near the river but we still had a pretty good time!
Love these kids!

Paige was still a little sad about being injured and you can see it in her face here!

Love this guy too!

I think it's supposed to be for one person but I'm happy to make a couple exceptions

School Visits

Sigh. When this post is published it will be the day before school starts!! We've done so much this summer and had so much fun that I think the kids are going to have a pretty hard time transitioning back to routine and schoolwork. Maybe next year we'll try not to have such a good time;)
We visited both of the kids schools last week to meet teachers, drop off supplies, and make sure Owen knew how to open his locker and get to his classes. I think they're as ready as they can get!!

Skyzone

We met up with some friends on a day that was supposed to be rainy for some end-of-the-summer fun! Owen, predictably, spent his whole time playing dodgeball but I think Paige tried everything! Afterward we let them try out that crazy wind/tornado machine and they loved it. Bonus-it helped them cool off really quickly! We even stopped for ice cream after and I did a poor job of overseeing the ice cream distribution so they both had massive bowls!
