Blue Chips!

We're a little over a year away from Owen graduating so I hate to already be thinking about last times for things but this was probably our last soccer showcase or tournament weekend for club soccer since Owen likely won't participate next year! Pat and Owen went down Thursday morning to fit in a college visit at Miami and then Owen had his first game early Friday morning. They lost that first game unfortunately but they spent the night playing basketball at the hotel and going to a nice restaurant-Rusk. I joined them Saturday afternoon for the second game which they won! Then we hung out at the hotel a bit more before heading to dinner at Quaker Steak and Lube with almost the whole team. Big groups can be hard to accomodate but it's so nice when everyone can make it work. Then the boys played probably another 2 hours of basketball. I don't know how they had the energy. The game on Sunday wasn't too early, which was nice, but the team was down to no subs partway into the game after a couple injuries and then down another player after he got a red card. I don't know if their hearts were in the game by that point but they really held their own in a tough position, especially when the other team was getting a little out of hand and intense in a situation that definitely didn't call for it. They lost the game but they were all ready to head home after 4 days of being in Cincinnati. 

 

Intrigue Pittsburgh!

Weekend 2 of being out of town was in Pittsburgh for an Intrigue dance convention! This is her third time at an Intrigue dance convention this season and Intrigue is also the first dance convention she ever did back in 2017! She chose not to compete her solo or do improv but she was plenty busy with all of the classes she took. One of the fun things about these trips is you have time to bond and hang out with people so we went to a big dinner with everyone from the studio that attended and I went out for lunch with friends on Sunday while the girls were in class. The end of the weekend was a show with awards, some standout dances from the competition and a dance showcasing the different ages. Paige got to be one of the representatives from her studio for the teens and even won a scholarship for how she did in classes!

Showstoppers

Showstoppers is one of the bigger competitions Paige does with lots of bright lights, multiple stages, announcers, special awards and more! It's a big spectacle but a lot of fun too! This was the first of three weekends of being out of town for me and it was in Columbus. Normally we drive up with friends but Paige and I were on our own this time because our friends were coming up later. We settled into the hotel Friday afternoon and Paige got a chance to relax before performing late that night. Saturday morning she had solo in the morning, one hip hop in the afternoon and then another dance late that night. I think we ended up eating dinner around 10 or 11 those two nights. She finished up on Sunday about 5pm. It was a great weekend and 6 of her dances got Crystals-Invisible Battles, Mr Morale, Proud Mary, Padam Padam, It's All Coming Back to Me, and Hot! The rest got Double Platinum, they all did such a good job!!

Total Eclipse!

The eclipse anticipation has been building for awhile so I think we were all very excited when the day finally came around. Eclipse day was also the last day of Spring Break so that made it extra special too. Pat took half a day off of work and we all got to hang out together, it was honestly such a nice day and so fun! We played some outdoor games and made some sunprints (also mentioned in this 2011 post!). We sat in the backyard when the time came and you could hear other excited groups throughout the neighborhood. A group of children screamed a countdown! They were incorrect, I hope their parents didn't let them look too early. Also people set off fireworks and there was loud clapping! But beyond all that, it was such a surreal experience. It got chilly and dark and a little creepy to be honest but so awesome!!
