First Day, First Game

It was rainy on the first day of school so I didn't get our traditional front step pictures for both kids. And I couldn't get them together either because Owen starts much earlier now that he's in high school!! Neither kid was excited about summer being over but they both had pretty good attitudes about going back although Paige was much more nervous about it than Owen! I'm driving both kids now because we live to close to the high school for Owen to be given a spot on the bus so I get a little bit of time with each of them before they start their days. They both had good first days and neither got lost! 

Owen also got to play in his first official high school soccer game that same night! It was so exciting to watch him play for his school in the stadium, something he's been looking forward to for a long time!

Summer Wrap-Up!

The kids are starting their second week of school today but before we get to that post, here are some random pictures from the end of summer!

40!

Whelp. I'm 40! So far it hasn't felt any different from any other birthday except the celebrations were a little grander! The kids were pretty busy on the day of so I spent most of it driving them around which was fine by me! Owen and I got up around 6:30 so he could get to Freshman orientation on time and then later had soccer practice. Paige had dance and then got to pick up her schedule and do a walk-through at the middle school. That was all wrapped up by about 5 so then we made some copycat Houlihan's salads and went to Mason's Creamery for dessert! They treated me to some homemade cards and presents and then we ended the night with a hilarious round of Cards Against Humanity-Family edition!

Birthdays!

 We got together to celebrate August birthdays! I'd say the celebration skewed a little toward me turning 40 (especially the decorations!) but we also celebrated Jamie too!! It was just a really nice, fun day hanging out with people and eating too much! :)

Putt Putt

We've been talking for most of the summer about getting out to play putt-putt at Sweetie's but it kept getting pushed back because of weather or events being moved around. We did finally find time to make it though on a Saturday night! It was a little crowded waiting in line but once we started playing we didn't really have issues with waiting for people to play or holding anyone up behind us. We played the "hard" course which was challenging but not in a frustrating way. And I won(!!), which never happens so I felt like I needed to mention it. After we played we stopped at their ice cream shop and I ordered a kid scoop that ended up being the tiniest kid scoop I'd ever seen! But the ice cream was really good and everyone was happy with what they got!

Indiana

Pat traveled out of town for a funeral without us last weekend and ended up with a mini family reunion. It was a sad reason for a get together but so nice that he got to visit a lot of spots from his childhood visits to see his grandparents and see some people that he hadn't seen in awhile!

 

13.1

I'm casually training for a marathon and I had my longest training run yet-13.1! And subsequently Pat biked 13.1! It was kind of crazy to just run a half marathon on a random day without any fanfare but I still felt proud of myself at the end. I found some compression socks for $5 the other day and I'm going to start using them for recovery after my long runs. Here's a picture of me modeling them while Griffin tries to get me to pet him:)
