Happy Halloween! We carved our pumpkin last night and we're pretty happy with the results.
Pat looks like he was about to do some serious damage to our pumpkin. We broke our tiny plastic pumpkin cutter last year so we had to use a large knife instead.
Owen still refuses to touch pumpkin guts but Paige was very brave.
The final result!

Toys!
Owen spotted the Toys R Us Christmas catalog in our mailbox the other day and he spent a long time doing this...
Paige makes a guest appearance in the video because she was munching on my arm:)

The Laugher
So this video is interesting because of the audio...the camerawork is not so good. It's hard to amuse Paige and hold a camera.

Preschool Party!
I got to go spy on Owen at preschool during his Halloween party! I mean...I went to Owen's preschool to help with his Halloween party! It was fun getting to see him interact with his classmates. He didn't really pay too much attention to me but would come talk to me every once in awhile. Honestly, I think he was so thrown off that he kept forgetting I was there since he tried to tell me about the party when we were driving home:)

The Roller
Paige can roll. On command. As long as that's what she was in the middle of doing anyway.

Pumpkin Cookies
Wrote this post a long time ago and never posted it! These cookies are really good though so I'm putting it up now!
I actually made these cookies twice. The first time I made them following the recipe (except for halving the amount of sugar, subbing in some wheat flour and accidentally forgetting the baking soda...ok, that doesn't really sound like I followed it very well.) and the second time I tweaked the recipe to see if I could make them healthier (and mostly dairy-free) but still tasty. I think it was pretty successful. I used applesauce instead of butter, just an egg white instead of the whole egg and half wheat/half white flour.
Original recipe here.

History
Back when Paige was just born and living in the NICU, Pat and Owen took a special trip to the History Museum while I stayed with Paige in the hospital. We had been carting Owen back and forth from our house to the hospital (where he wasn't even allowed to see her) every day and thought he could benefit from doing something special. They visited the museum and then flew a kite outside until they came to pick me up. We ended up recreating that day yesterday without even planning on it (yes, we randomly had kites both times...) and Paige and I were able to join in this time. It made me a little teary-eyed and proud to be there with both of my kids.

Harvest Fest!
Our city has a Halloween celebration for the kids where they can go trick or treating during the day and meet lots of costumed characters. We were able to meet up with some friends and take the kids around.
Owen was able to enjoy the trick or treating even more this year because last year Elmo was the only character he wasn't scared of. Elmo was definitely still his favorite though.
Owen was supposed to be finding a hidden pumpkin but he decided to sit down next to this one instead.
Paige slept through most of it until the very end so we put on her tutu and took some pictures!

Patterson's and Pie
We took our annual Fall trip to Patterson's over the weekend! The weather was perfect and we got a ton of great apples and an apple fritter to eat on the ride home. More pictures of our day tomorrow!

Totally New Topic
Just kidding. More oatmeal:)
Pumpkin Oatmeal. Seriously. I love it. It's super creamy and almost tastes indulgent except it's not overly sweet. I can't remember where I got the recipe from so I'm going to copy it down here so I don't forget it!
1C oatmeal, 1 3/4C water (or milk), 2/3C pumpkin puree, 3 Tbsp brown sugar (I used less), 1 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg (I used more), optional chopped almonds or fruit.
Baked Oatmeal. This was good too but definitely best right after it's come out of the oven (leftovers not so great). Cut a slice, pour some milk over it and it soaks in from the bottom so the top is nice and crisp and warm and the bottom is cool and soft.

Wontons!
Despite the chaotic scene in our house this Sunday night I decided it was a super time to assemble some wontons. Highlights from the dinner...
1. I didn't see it happen but I did get to see soy sauce dripping from Owen's nose after he had inhaled some while trying to smell it. Awesome. He was not pleased.
2. After poking the wontons a couple times, but not eating them, Owen announced, "I want a veggie burger!" Pat's response was fun too. "Owen, try one! They're actually good!"
3. The whole meal was punctuated with Paige yelling while I was simultaneously trying to feed her and myself.

6 Months!
Paige is 6 months old!! Just in this past week it seems like she's doing so much more. She's concentrating on grabbing things, is really interested in my cell phone and is laughing! Owen can get her to laugh pretty easily by saying "baby" but for some reason it doesn't usually work when I do it. I know that because I spent a lot of time trying. A lot. Happy half birthday Paige!
