Happy Birthday!
Mom's Birthday was the 18th but we celebrated yesterday! Happy Birthday!
Yesterday was also our annual December baking day and we made Rugelach. It's a sort of pastry rolled into a crescent with a filling made of raisins, chocolate, jam and pecans. Really good but they didn't look as pretty as they did in the book!

Christmas Party!
Owen and his friends from playgroup had a little Christmas party yesterday and this was the best picture we could get of all four of them (I'm in there too, see my hand?)! It was good practice for next week, I learned that we may need to budget more time for opening gifts since Owen didn't exactly tear into the paper as I had anticipated, even though he loved ripping the paper. The kids had fun though, they each opened a gift from their Secret Santa then quickly abandoned their own gifts in order to play with someone else's:)

Outtakes!
Our Christmas cards are in the mail! We did them pretty quickly so hopefully we didn't miss anyone. As organized as we try to be we always miss someone but that's why we have extras! Plus we never stay updated with our addresses so that's an issue too. Anyway, here are some of our outtakes. Initial attempts at setting the timer on the camera didn't work since Owen kept going for the camera when we would set it down. Then we tried to hold it ourselves at armlength. Then we finally realized if we gave Owen a camera to hold while we set the timer on the other camera he was happy and that's how we finally ended up with our picture!

Rawr!
It's always interesting when Owen gets up from a nap because you never know what his reaction will be when you walk in. Sometimes he says "No?!" and runs to the other side of the crib. Sometimes he'll point at me, smile and say "Mama!" Today was a new one though. He looked at me very seriously and whispered, "Rawr!" That meant we needed to go find Leopard. So we did. Then we all watched for cars out the front window so we could say "Beep, beep!" when they passed by. Sigh. So cute.

Advent Calendar
This is our Advent Calendar! I started making it awhile ago and actually got it done in time! 25 little felt envelopes filled with chocolate. Originally they were going to be strung across our fireplace until I realized they would get in the way of our stockings...and then I got sick of thinking about it and they all went into a red bowl:)

French Breakfast Puffs
I don't know why these are different from muffins but they are somehow. They were really good, I think the cinnamon-sugar topping may have something to do with it...
Aww...This picture is so cute even though Owen either had his eyes closed or was looking at the camera he was holding. We had attempt number one yesterday for getting a good Christmas picture of all of us...we'll try again today...

Hi Owen!
It's a video! Yippee! There's a lot of movement since Owen was trying to take the camera but at least you can hear his amazing animal noises. Here's hoping this one is easier to see than the one from Halloween!

And...I'm Back!
I took a break from blogging and making new breakfasts for a few days since Pat was home and Owen decided his new wake-up time was 5 am. Thanksgiving was great but Owen magically deleted all the pictures from that day so we took some pictures of us eating the leftovers!
Cinnamon-Pecan Pancakes from yesterday morning! I think I have four more to go...

Oats and Berries
I found this recipe on the back of my canister of oats. Then I eliminated a few of the ingredients and it turned into this--toasted oats, strawberries and blueberry yogurt. I had to escape to the den to take a picture so Owen wouldn't try to steal the camera. He did, however, steal my oats and berries when I returned to the kitchen.

Biscotti and Cocoa
Breakfast this morning was some Maple-Walnut Biscotti and a mug of hot chocolate. I figured with my last two bad breakfasts I needed to go with something more reliable. I think part of the problem is that I'm trying to make healthy versions of breakfasts that aren't necessarily supposed to be light eating and that's altering the taste too much. Luckily the biscotti turned out to be healthy-ish and also yummy.

Bleh Pudding
I know this looks disgusting. It's my breakfast bread pudding. Please don't make this. You don't want any part of this. That's two bad breakfast days in a row! I should have known bread pudding in the microwave was a bad idea...especially when I used my failed bagels as the bread...
Fun with the camera
Rare photo of the elusive sleeping Owen. He refused to take off his winter jacket when I put him in bed.

All Spiffed Up.
Here we are looking all spiffy for our dinner at the Melting Pot on Saturday.
This is our dessert plate after we devoured 95% of it and I started playing with the chocolate left in our fondue pot. You need to go to The Melting Pot. It was good. It was four courses of great food.
Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal (from Saturday)...this is the third or fourth time I had intended to make a recipe I have for Oatmeal Brulee and then realized (again) that I don't have an adequately sized broiler safe dish. Good thing for me that I didn't because this was great. Seriously, is peanut butter bad with anything?
Today's breakfast...Homemade Bagels! I think we need to tweak our bagel-making a bit...these were very good fresh last night but this morning...not the best.

Our Marriage is 5 Years Old!
Happy Anniversary to us! This picture was from when we went to Boston way back before Owen was born. The light in this picture is crazy, it looks like we're glowing.
So...wow. Again, found some coffeecake in the back of my freezer because I made no plans for what to eat this morning. By the time I'm through with these 30 days, our freezer will be empty!

Don't Bite Your Friends
Has anyone watched Yo Gabba Gabba? It's scary. Unfortunately it has super catchy songs ("There's a nose on my face, nose on my face. There are eyes on my face, eyes on my face") and good lessons to teach. Owen and I gave it a shot last night and learned about our faces and also about biting friends (no, no, no) and biting food (yes, yes, yes). Good times. Anyway, I had cereal today and I didn't take a picture of it because it was just cereal. If you feel like you're missing out, I had Kashi Heart to Heart.

Comfy and Cozy
I don't normally post twice in one day (or without pictures) but I feel so super cozy lounging on the couch that I needed to document it. I made a giant pot of pasta e fagiole for dinner and during the whole assembling process found out I needed another can of diced tomatoes and called my neighbor to borrow one (how old-school neighborly!). Then Owen went to bed without too much of a fuss (knock on wood...). And now I feel all warm and full from the good soup and I'm on the internet and listening to Christmas music (I don't care what anyone says, it's never too early!).
Aww Man!

Fun at Home
These are the kinds of things that happen in our house when Owen gets bored. He lines up all the chairs, sits on one and then insists I come sit down too. I'm not sure exactly what it all means but it's fun anyway.
I've been wanting to make graham crackers for a long time. They didn't come out very crackery but they taste good anyway.
I had an orange for breakfast since I stole its zest to make my scones the other day. It was pretty flavorless.
